How to Apply

Students interested in attending Northlands College at any of our northern campuses can fill in the application form provided below. Any email attachments included should be sent in PDF format.

3. Full step-by-step application process:

 
Adult Basic Education applicants...

Application process for Adult Basic Education (ABE) applicants:

1. You can always come speak to a student advisor at any one of our campuses before you do anything else.

2. Take some time to think about what your final educational and employment goals actually are.

3. Consider your current skill level and select an ABE program that meets you where you are at.

4. Follow the application procedures listed for the program:

• Fill out an application form.
• Make a copy of your high school transcripts if you have them.

- You may need to order them.
- If you are currently in school, you need to have a preliminary statement of marks form filled out by your current school.

5. Submit your completed application form and all required documents to:

In person: Drop off at your nearest campus.

6. You will receive notification to inform you of any missing documentation and the next step in the process (e.g. interview, testing).

IMPORTANT: A student advisor will be assigned to your file to provide support. This staff member’s name will appear on all correspondence.

7. After you have completed the application process, you will receive further correspondence stating your admissions status as:

• Waitlisted - all applicants who have completed the application process are initially waitlisted.  It is important to get on our waitlist to ensure that you are considered when we do our intakes twice per year.

Accepted - applicants will be required to meet further expectations and, potentially, submit further documentation. These expectations and documents will include:

- Applying for funding either through Provincial Training Allowance or through your band (if the training is on reserve);;
- copy of your high school transcripts if you used a preliminary statement of marks for acceptance; and
- consideration of housing, transportation, and childcare arrangements are established prior to program start up.

Rejected - applicant did not complete the application process in a reasonable amount of time (e.g. six months). If interested in reapplying, applicant should contact Student Services prior to doing so.

8.  Continue to check the admissions updates for updates and details on orientations dates, classroom locations and other pertinent information.

 
Mining, Technical, Trades, or Health program applicants...

Application process for FQFA applicants:

1. Select a program that matches your career and educational goals. Program information is available on our website.

2. Ensure you can meet entrance requirements and consider future program expectations such as Criminal Record Checks (CRC) or drug tests.

3. Follow the application procedures listed for the program:

• Fill out an application form.
• Make a copy of all your transcripts.

- You may need to order them.
- If you are currently in school, you need to have a preliminary statement of marks form filled out by your current school.

• You may be required to provide a written response to a provided question(s).

4. Submit your completed application form and all required documents to:

In person: Drop off at your nearest campus.

5. You will receive notification to inform you of any missing documentation and the next step in the process (e.g. interview).

Accepted - applicants will be required to meet further expectations and submit further documentation by August 1. These expectations and documents could include:

- proof of application or acceptance for funding;
- Criminal Record Checks, Vulnerable Sector Check, and immunization records;
- copy of your final transcripts if you used a preliminary statement of marks for acceptance; and
- consideration of housing, transportation, and childcare arrangements are established prior to program start up.

Waitlisted - applicants will have some preparations to do:

- ensure your most current contact information (e.g. email, phone, address) is on file;
- be available or ensure we can get messages to you if a seat opens;
- apply for funding (just in case);
- consideration of housing, transportation, and childcare as you could move from waitlisted to accepted with little time to prepare.

Not qualified - applicants are encouraged to contact Student Services for academic and career advising.

University program applicants...

Application process for University applicants:

1. Select a program that matches your career and educational goals. Program information is available on our website.

2. Ensure you can meet entrance requirements and consider future program expectations such as Criminal Record Checks (CRC) or drug tests.

3. Follow the application procedures listed for the program: 

• Fill out an application form.
• Make a copy of ALL your transcripts.

- You may need to order them.
- If you are currently in school, you need to have a preliminary statement of marks form filled out by your current school.

Accepted on the condition of - applicants will be required to meet further expectations and submit further documentation. These expectations and documents will include:

- Proof of acceptance or re-admittance into the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina.
- proof of application or acceptance for funding;
- copy of your high school transcripts if you used a preliminary statement of marks for acceptance; and
- consideration of housing, transportation, and childcare arrangements are established prior to program start up.

Not qualified - applicants are encouraged to contact Student Services for academic and career advising.

Funding resources for students...
First Nations Post-Secondary Student Support:
Apply for funding at your local band office. Your post-secondary coordinator will assist you with the application process.

Gabriel Dumont Institute:
Contact your nearest GDI Training and Employment Centre to determine eligibility. To find your nearest employment centre, call toll free at 1-877-488-6888.

Sask Careers:
If you are entering a one or two year post-secondary program and meet the requirements for EI eligibility, you may be eligible for a Skills Training Benefit. Contact your nearest CanSask office for assistance.

Scholarships and Bursaries:
A variety of scholarships are available. Northlands College offers entrance awards to our accepted students based on secondary (Grade 12) marks used to gain acceptance into your program. These are generally awarded and paid in the fall. You can also check the following links:

Northern Saskatchewan students may qualify for scholarships offered by Areva, Cameco, Northern Spirits and Indspire. Call toll free at 1-888-311-1185 if you have questions or require assistance.

Student Loans

Programs at Northlands College are eligible for provincial and federal student loans.

Student loan applications are available for download from this page or in person from a counselling office. Student loans take 4 to 6 weeks to process so apply early. Once your student loan has been processed and you receive your certificate of eligibility, please bring it to the administration office for signing by an authorized staff member.
