Practical Nursing - Diploma
Accredited by Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
Practical Nursing students learn how to provide professional nursing care independently or as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
This includes how to:
- Provide professional nursing care to individuals within the context of families and communities
- Apply the knowledge you derive from the nursing arts and the physiological, psychological, sociological and cultural sciences which are common to all nurses
- Practice in accordance with the standards of practice and guidelines established by the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN)
Graduates may find careers in acute-care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, medical centers and extended care facilities. Practical nurses can gain exposure in a number of clinical areas:
- medical care
- surgical care
- maternal-child or pediatric care
- palliative care
Upon completion, graduates are eligible to write the national licensure examination for registration as Licensed Practical Nurses in Saskatchewan and can practice in any province or territory in Canada.

Grade 12 with a minimum overall average of 65% in English Language Arts A30; English Language Arts B30; any 30-level mathematics; one of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30; and one of Social Studies 30, History 30 or Native Studies 30.
