Practical Nursing - Diploma - Year 2 of 2
Saskatchewan Polytechnic credential eligible FQFA
Northlands College is offering year 2 of a 2 year practical nursing program and upon completion you will have developed into a competent, confident nurse capable of making a positive difference in the health and well-being of individuals, their families and our communities. Licensed practical nurses are a vital part of today’s health care team—in acute hospital care, long-term care and in the community. They provide compassionate, professional nursing care to individuals throughout the human lifespan, infants to seniors.
This includes how to:
- Provide professional nursing care to individuals within the context of families and communities
- Apply the knowledge you derive from the nursing arts and the physiological, psychological, sociological and cultural sciences which are common to all nurses
- Practice in accordance with the standards of practice and guidelines established by the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN)
Graduates may find careers in acute-care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, medical centers and extended care facilities. Practical nurses can gain exposure in a number of clinical areas:
- Medical care
- Surgical care
- Maternal-child or pediatric care
- Palliative care
Upon completion, graduates are eligible to write the national licensure examination for registration as Licensed Practical Nurses in Saskatchewan and can practice in any province or territory in Canada.
