Early Childhood Education

Accreditation: Saskatchewan Polytechnic FQFA

This one-year certificate program provides the knowledge and skills needed to work in a variety of child care settings. Students will develop an understanding of child development, establishing safe and stimulating environments, and the importance of play in learning.

Graduates of this program may find employment in licensed child care centers, schools, family daycares, and private homes.

At the end of each semester, students will participate in a (four-week; six-week) practicum. Whenever possible, students are placed with local agencies; however, travel and overnight stays may be required depending on availability of employers.

Accepted applicants will be required to provide:
• evidence of a Vulnerable Sector Check
• immunization records

Note: A positive result on the VSC may result in the loss of your accepted seat. Students must meet the minimum VSC criteria set out by the practicum agency.

Graduates of this program are eligible to:
• apply for ECE Level II Certification
• earn an ECE diploma with one more year of study
• transfer some credits to a Bachelor of Education degree program
