Early Childhood Education - Diploma Year 2 of 2

The ECE year 2 continues where the early childhood care certificate left off.  Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to work independently with children in a variety of settings and situations. You will be required to do a 6week practicum in a child care facility or preschool setting.

Upon graduation one will be eligible to apply to become a Licensed level III Early Childhood Educator.  If you plan to become a childcare director you must have your ECE level III.  You will also be eligible to transfer some of your credits to University of Regina’s Bachelor of Education degree program in elementary education.

You will further develop your knowledge attitude and skills that were developed in year 1 and enhance the learning which will include:
  • Administration and child care regulations
  • Child guidance techniques
  • Enhanced learning of diverse abilities of children
  • Study of family and community relations
  • Study of play environments and program planning
  • Learn additional programming for infants, toddlers and school age children

Entrance requirements: Must have completed year 1 of ECE. Grade 12 with English Language Arts A30 and English Language Arts B30.
Note: Conditionally Accepted applicants will be required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check upon admission into the program. Due to the requirements of the job, fingerprinting must accompany a Vulnerable Sector Check. At the discretion of the practicum agency you may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check. For this reason, final admission will be based on the Criminal Record Check. The cost of the Criminal Record Check is your responsibility. Immunization records and current TB testing are required for practicum placement.
