Mental Health & Wellness (Year 1 of 2)

Accreditation: Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies  FQFA

It takes emotional maturity, good people skills and a strong sense of self to become a mental health & wellness counsellor. In the first year of studies students will learn and apply Indigenous and Western-based holistic approaches to healing and addictions counselling. Students will focus on internal self growth that will enable the student to grow holistically and become familiar with the role of a mental health counsellor. An instructor with real world experience will provide training in:

  • Interpersonal communication
  • Youth care
  • Indigenous healing
  • Therapy for families
  • Recovery models
  • Modern technologies

There are two 4 week field placements included, out of town travel with extended stays may be required.

Accepted applicants will be required to provide:

  • Evidence of a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Criminal Record Check
  • S.I.I.T. character reference form

Note: A positive result on the VSC may result in the loss of your accepted seat. Students must meet the minimum VSC criteria set out by the practicum agency
